Getting more than one estimate is always a good idea, and most homeowners want a good deal. However, in today's economic climate, the good deals will be hard to find. There are several reasons for this.

  1. In the past, contractors could offer deeper discounts on jobs due to the volume of backlogged work that they had. They could spread the total company profits over many jobs. This allowed them to offer better pricing. Today, the work backlog is not large enough to do this.
  2. When the cost for a barrel of oil was at over $100, all building product manufactures across the board increased pricing. Our costs on products such as Windows, Roofing and Siding as well as most metal and vinyl products increased substantially. In fact, most roof shingles have doubled in price just within the past 12 months.The only thing that contractors can do is pass this cost on to our customers.
  3. Increased operational costs: Advertising, Insurance, State Regulation and Fuel have all impacted our bottom line. As an example... many homeowners like to use the internet to find contractors to get prices. This has become very popular. Unfortunately many of these folks wind up not returning the contractors calls or ignoring the calls altogether. Now, the contractor pays for each contact name they received from these services. Every time this happens, it increases the cost of doing business for the contractor. I use this example because Advertising is a huge part of any businesses overhead.

With regard to low estimates, buyer beware! More and more contractors are providing property owners with open-ended estimates. On the estimate they provide a general statement for a description and a lower price than the competition. Once they receive the job they get about one-quarter of the way through and they start requesting additional monies for additional work which was not included.

In fact, several property owners that told us that they got a better deal with another contractor and when we followed up to see how the project went, they explain to us that they ultimately paid more for the job. When we ask them, "did you get it in writing?" they say yes, but it was not itemized like your estimate.

When we present you with an estimate, it is to complete job as we discussed. The only time the price changes is if the scope changes . More importantly you can rest assure that your job will be done correctly. We Take NO SHORT CUTS!

Every homeowner is out looking for a GREAT deal. Please remember you will get what you pay for.
